I had always mentioned to my daughter, who lives in Massachusetts, that when I retired I’d like to learn how to make pottery. Though I wasn’t retired at the end of 2012, she bought me a gift certificate to a studio here in San Antonio. I was hesitant, and held on to the certificate until October 2013, when I finally went to my first class. That month-long class ignited my love of clay. If you love this art form, once you touch mud, there's no going back!
I’ve been dedicated to learning about and loving the art of making objects, useful and otherwise, every week for the last 11 years. I’ve associated myself with a very fine studio after my original mentor retired. Throwin’ Gold Studio is a wonderful, sharing, supportive community of fellow potters. I make my wheel work pieces there and do my glazing at home. I also create hand-crafted pieces at home, and all firings are done at the studio.
Now that I’ve been retired for over five years, I find the fellowship of my fellow potters a very positive influence in my life. I have found my bliss in clay!
